It's basically SOPA and PIPA all over again, but possibly worse.

Have no idea if there are other petitions, but sign this one at least, I'm going to (soon as I make an account). They need at least almost 30,000 more signatures by March 15.

Cause apparently 'Rise of the Guardians' didn't make enough box office revenue (though I don't think it's fair to blame just RotG entirely). Makes me sad really. Mostly because it's really awful that these people are losing their jobs, especially with the economy the way it is right now. But also for slightly selfish reasons because if I read their statement right then it (and/or other movies that they make that are fabulous but don't make enough box office revenue) will probably never get a sequel (not that I'm sure I want a sequel of it, but I hate the possibility taken away) while other movies that do make the revenue but may not be as engaging or as wonderful will.

I mean, I honestly haven't even seen the movie yet, but what I have seen of it from being in the fandom from fics, gifs, and AMVs is it is if nothing else a completely visually stunning movie. Very beautiful, and also thought provoking, maybe a bit heart-wrenching, and makes you think of those fond childhood memories of you curling up with your favorite story book with a cup of hot cocoa or warm milk and it just, it takes you there. It makes you believe again, or want to believe again, and in a world like ours, I think that's something we need.

I have never been more interested in reading all those fairytales I've never gotten to read before, or only heard of, or haven't read since I was a kid as I am now. I'm more interested in mythology than ever, though now more than just the myths of Greek gods and vampires and werewolves. (Library, I'm coming~)
I mean, I never knew what a Pooka (Puca) was until RotG and I researched it. (Because I am a curious little thing ok?!)

And I'm so depressed I couldn't see this wonderful movie in theaters, that I missed the full experience, though I'm going to buy the DVD/Blu-Ray/what-sit for sure. (They claim that some of the reason the revenue may have been so low is because of Pirating, I don't know how true that is, but there you have it. Also it doesn't help that not a lot of people knew what this movie was really about, or that it was even out. Part of the reason I didn't get to see it in theaters was that I thought it would come out later than it did, and by the time I finally got to go to the movies it was just gone. It also doesn't help that movie theater tickets aren't really all that cheap. :P)

And it's just, the whole situation is really sad ok?

(Like seriously though if you liked 'How to Train Your Dragon' I think you'll like this.)

Sorry, I've just been excited about this movie for so long now just waiting for it to come out and then this and and my feels can't take it ok?

I'm not trying to preach to the choir here or anything really, cause I can understand how times are tough and money is thin and I understand ok? It's just kind of a sucky situation all around really. And I just, had to type this. So yeah. There you go.

Watch this movie if you can, I'm honestly hoping it will live up to my expectation but even if it doesn't that's ok because the dream was there.

Also, I believe.

Peace out.

Seriously. WHAT THE FLYING FUCK WORLD.

"File-sharers, beware: By July 12, major US Internet service providers (ISPs) will voluntarily begin serving as copyright police for the entertainment industry, according to Cary Sherman, chief executive of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The so-called “six-strikes” plan is said to be one of the most effective anti-piracy efforts ever established in the US."

The article goes on to give details. After six notices, internet providers will decide to throttle a person's internet speed, or cut it off altogether. I don't know if they will crack down on torrents only, or if it is up to the internet provider. I get the sense it is up to the internet provider. So some people could get away with downloading non torrents, while others might get their internet service cut off. I urge you to click it and read, as we all know people who download.

No more downloading eps of your favorite shows for vidding, gifs, or fanfiction art. No more downloading screencaps possibly. I'm so sorry my friends. I don't even know if BT Guard will work to protect you, but I would google it if I were you. It is a professional service that supposedly can protect you from the invasive eyes of your internet provider.

Just, my friends, please make each other aware. Please be aware of the date JULY 12TH. Mark your calendar and double check with your internet provider by then. If you start receiving notices of downloaded activity, this is why. And your internet service could be throttled or cut off.

ACTA in a Nutshell –

What is ACTA?  ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Essential ACTA Resources

  • Read more about ACTA here: ACTA Fact Sheet
  • Read the authentic version of the ACTA text as of 15 April 2011, as finalized by participating countries here: ACTA Finalized Text
  • Follow the history of the treaty’s formation here: ACTA history
  • Read letters from U.S. Senator Ron Wyden wherein he challenges the constitutionality of ACTA: Letter 1 | Letter 2 | Read the Administration’s Response to Wyden’s First Letter here: Response
  • Watch a short informative video on ACTA: ACTA Video
  • Watch a lulzy video on ACTA: Lulzy Video

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.
